Overview
Physical Education (PE) plays an important role in the physical growth and development of students. Through PE, students are given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of physical activities such as sports and games and acquire the basic skills necessary for participation and enjoyment of the sports and games for leisure.
In addition, PE provides a natural platform to impart valuable life skills and develop self-awareness of their own physique. The life skills imparted through PE include self-management skills like discipline, resilience and endurance; social awareness skills like cooperation and teamwork; relationship management like sportsmanship and fair play and responsible decision-making skills with respect to student leadership and safety.
In line with the Ministry of Education (MOE) PE Curriculum Vision, the school also envisions that every student in NUS High School will be physically educated. Hence, the NUS High PE curriculum aims to ensure that each student:
- Understands the importance and benefits of physical activity
- Enjoys and actively participates in a variety of physical activities
- Demonstrates positive social character traits in a variety of physical activities
- Develops and maintains both health-rated fitness as well as performance–related fitness
- Plays safely with respect to self and others
